Check-In

Online check-in is the smoothest way to check in. The window for online check-in opens 24 hours before the flight departure and closes just 70 minutes before takeoff.

Security

Once you have checked in and dropped your bags off, you will have to get to the security check in order to reach the departures. If you need to bring gels or liquids in your hand baggage through security, you can prepare them in clear bags before leaving home or at the designated area before reaching security. You must remove your shoes, metal objects, and belts. Additionally, if you have laptops or tablets, you will have to put them into a separate tray at the security checkpoint. 

Boarding

Food Restrictions 

Certain food items on Virgin Atlantic flights are restricted. Passengers must not bring these items on the flight: 

However, passengers are allowed to bring on the flight some fresh foods from specific countries, including eggs, honey, fruit, and fish. Those of you booking within European countries have no restrictions on the food.  

How to Declare Food at Customs 

When you reach the UK from outside the European countries, you must choose the Customs Channel at the airport: 

Green Channel: Those of you who have any restricted items, for instance, meat, should not proceed toward the Green Channel. It indicates that you do not have anything to declare. Entering this channel with restricted items could lead to fines or legal action.

Red Channel:  The passengers who have brought restricted items such as meat are supposed to enter the Red Channel and discuss with the customs officer. They will destroy your item but no penalties will be imposed on you. 

Unsure About Your Items? If the passenger has no idea whether the product they are carrying is restricted, they will have to go to the Red Channel and talk to the agent. If any item you are carrying is restricted, they will confiscate your food item but will not take any legal action against you or impose any charges.
